DSHS Plans to Drop Compression Garment Payments

Another blow to healthcare and practitioners getting paid to provide it. Will DSHS patients go without compression garments? Pay for their own? Add to pro bono burden already heaped on providers by DSHS payment rates? Read member Loraine Lovejoy-Evans letter to DSHS about this topic at http://ptwa.org/pdfs_misc/DSHSLtr2009_LLE.pdf. “Perhaps it is time to stop working in our field and start farming to take care of our own families,” says Lovejoy-Evans.

Direct Access in the News

Pittsburgh’s WTAE-TV aired an interesting story last week about direct access to physical therapy. Watch the story here.

The story got national exposure when it was picked up by MSNBC.

This kind of news story helps spread the word about direct access to patients who do not know they have the option.

“The segment points out that very few patients realize they are able to visit a PT without referral,” said APTA President Scott Ward in a blog posting. “It is our hope that stories such as this one will help solve this lack of awareness, while also playing a key role in finding answers to the overall health care crisis.”
